SugarCRM 5.5.4 Upgrades

We are starting upgrades to SugarCRM 5.5.2 and subsequently to version 5.5.4 shortly thereafter. All clients currently using Sugar Professional 5.2 will be scheduled for an upgrade in the coming weeks. Our managed upgrade process means that the impact to your business is minimised and any risk removed.

We are currently accepting requests for upgrades. If you'd like to be one of the first to be upgraded, please contact our Support Team. We will get in contact to plan and schedule the upgrade. Please be aware that the upgrade process may take some time depending on the amount of customisations currently in place. Also, in some cases, it may be advisable to remain on your current version of Sugar.

What's new in SugarCRM 5.5.4?

Much has changed in the latest version of Sugar. A lot of which is under the hood. However, here are just some of the significant differences.

  • The Email client has been completed redesigned to improve usability and performance. You can now send an email without leaving the record you are viewing.
  • A new Password Management feature has been added to improve security. You can control password requirements and recover forgotten logins.
  • Adding Contacts, Leads and Accounts to Target List can now be done from the List of records.
  • You can now configure the modules available via the mobile interface as well as being able to customise the mobile page views.
  • You can now apply discounts to products when creating or editing a Quote.
  • Email sending has been changed to use SMTP. You will need to update all email accounts in your Sugar system to use your SMTP mail server in order to send emails. This includes the ability to send Campaign emails. You can do this now from the 'Settings' button in the Email client, or from Admin > Email Settings.
  • As of version 5.5.3, a single username can be used to log into a Sugar system only under one session. Any additional user sessions started using the same username will log out previous sessions.
  • ... and a whole lot more under the covers to improve overall system performance.

How does the upgrade work?

Your SugarCRM system upgrade will go through the following stages:

  1. System snapshot backed up to our internal development environment. We ask that no changes are made to your CRM through the Studio interface from this point. This includes adding or removing fields, modifying page layouts and updating dropdown lists.
  2. A dry-run upgrade is conducted on the snapshot of your system. Any customisations that have been made to your CRM will be carried forward ensuring a smooth transition for end-users.
  3. You will be asked to verify the upgrade. This involves simply double checking that the layouts and customisations are as expected and that the data has not changed.
  4. Upgrade will then be scheduled. Now that the dry-run has been completed and approved, we will schedule downtime for your production system to apply the upgrade to it. Upgrades can only be carried out during normal working hours. During the upgrade process, your CRM system will not be accessible. This is to ensure that the upgrade is as fast as possible.

The upgrade from Sugar 5.2 to Sugar 5.5.2 is a major one. Once complete, your CRM will be seamlessly upgraded to version 5.5.4 shortly afterwards.
